Every year on September 9, Indonesia celebrates Hari Olahraga Nasional (HAORNAS), or National Sports Day. The event is dedicated to promoting sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles, and the development of athletics across the country.
The origins of HAORNAS trace back to September 9, 1948, when the first National Sports Week (Pekan Olahraga Nasional / PON) was held in Surakarta, Central Java. The idea was initiated by President Soekarno, who envisioned sports as a unifying force for the newly independent nation. The date later became the official commemoration of National Sports Day.
Amore Prime School also took part in this year’s HAORNAS celebration by holding a variety of competitions. Students competed in futsal, badminton and basketball, as well as chess—and even the classic board game Monopoly. These activities brought excitement, teamwork, and friendly rivalry, making the day both meaningful and enjoyable for everyone involved.
